Hi, I’m Rachel, and I’m a hand dyer, a knitter, and spinner, amongst other crafts. I run Skein Queen, a hand-dyed yarn business based in Berkshire, and design knitting patterns which are easier than they look. I have over 20 years of experience working with yarn. My background in computer science and geoscience probably explains why I want to understand why things work the way they do.
My curiosity is what led me to set up Yarn Adventure. Every post here is about understanding yarn a little better. Topics cover everything from the basics of how yarn is constructed to the properties of different fibres, why some yarns felt and others don’t, what makes a good colourwork yarn, and much more.
Whether you’re a confident knitter or crocheter who wants to go deeper, or someone who finds yarn labels slightly confusing, this blog is for you. I hope you’ll find something useful here. There are no silly questions when it comes to yarn!
